Every two years (odd) all past and present students as well as sailing members of the community are welcome to join our crew in the Charleston Bermuda Race.
In the 2009 race, our student-crewed boat won First Place, receiving the coveted Bermuda Governor's Cup.
This classic blue water voyage will depart from Charleston, South Carolina in May 2011 and finish in June.
The adventure begins with 6 days of training in March. The first 3-day weekend will be spent learning, reviewing and practicing skills and planning tactics. The second 3-day weekend will consist of final prep, safety drills and an offshore overnight. For 3 days prior to the event you again join your crew for race trip planning and preparation. Then you set sail and race like the wind.
The Charleston Bermuda Race (originally called the Charleston to Bermuda (C2B) was founded in 1997. This unique event challenges sailors to navigate the 777 nautical miles between Charleston and Bermuda at a time of year known for tricky, unpredictable weather. The race has acquired a reputation for focusing on fun. The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club has played an instrumental role in popularizing the event. The Charleston to Bermuda has always been an inclusive event, welcoming boats new and old, large and small. Previous entries have included an Open-60, Swan 45, Cal 40, Santa Cruz 70, and a Cheoy Lee 31. Every seaworthy boat 30 feet and longer is welcome.
OnDeck Charleston takes students as crew. If you wish to join us for this exhilarating race contact ned@OSAsailing.com. 843-971-0700.

"Offshore Challenge" -- 7 Races April through October 2011
Sailing beyond the jetties, racing along the coast, returning home at night or staying out -- this year's Offshore Challenge offers race opportunities ranging from 30 mile day sails to a 215 mile regatta.
The Offshore Sailing Challenge is designed to provide sailors who have not experienced ocean sailing, as well as those who have, the opportunity to log long distance racing and build their competence in handling their boats offshore. Entries will have the opportunity to race in the spinnaker or non-spinnaker class with their appropriate PHRF rating. Awards will be made for each race as well as overall for the series. Participants will be given the opportunity to join in our "fish" allowance in which a time allowance will be awarded based on the measurement of ANY fish caught.
Very favorable dockage rates will be available at the destination marinas and for "party" time. Good food and drinks will be the "order of the day" for all overnight venues.
In addition, a safety seminar is being planned during the racing season which will give all sailors an opportunity to hone their safety skills. Details are found on the CORA website.
Entry is open to all boats 29 feet and over.
--OFFSHORE PREP SEMINAR
--AWARDS Awards by class for each event and for the season finalists will be made. All participants will be given the opportunity to drop any one ocean race and one overnight race and still be eligible for the season overall awards.
--JOIN US ON OUR BOATS We are providing 2 yachts, and invite you to be part of the crew. Join us for as many races as you'd like.
For some races we'll hold a prep course that we ask everyone (with only minor exceptions) to take. This is important to ensure that our sailors are prepared for these races.
