All Women's Sailing Classes - Basic Keelboat 1 & 2
Our women's program offers a low-stress, supportive and interactive environment for learning the same skills that we teach in other courses. In this program we enjoy helping one another achieve high levels of competence in a supportive and noncompetitive setting.
The female instructor who heads the program has ocean voyaging experience and currently captains one of the harbor's tall ships.
"Karen is an OUTSTANDING instructor. She is very PERSONABLE and quickly assesses how each individual in the class best learns. She is EXTREMELY PATIENT which I appreciate greatly." -- Anonymous student survey
We have so much fun teaching the skill of sailing. It's a freeing, quiet enterprise full of opportunities for life skills development.
Unique among sailing schools for the thoroughness of its course content, OSA's program fosters within women the:
- Confidence to move a boat calmly through the water aided by the quiet force of the wind;
- Technical knowledge to foster equality among sailing couples where all participants are equally skilled at boat handling;
- Joy of the sport that will enable us to instill in our children a love of sailing and a self-reliant spirit.
"...after the first 3 days I felt totally accomplished. Shelly treated us all equally, even the most inexperienced of us! She was patient, had a thorough understanding of the skills and was able to communicate clearly until we were satisfied we understood. Wonderful! Marvelous! I am Tired but Fulfilled!" - anonymous student survey
This is a fun program of instruction that begins with the Basic Keelboat course and includes the opportunity to participate in OnDeck Charleston's women's team in this summer's CORA Wednesday night race series.
